I need help! My graphics card (ATI RADEON 9800) isn't working! Any advice?

I've been trying to load games on my computer, mainly Sims 2. I've downloaded all the most recent drivers for the card, DirectX 9.0c and Microsoft net framework 2. I know my computer meets all the requirements to play the game and I鈥檝e downloaded patches from the Sims2 website too. When loading the game I get two error messages.

"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed all the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

OR

"VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands."

After this second error it lets you send an automatic error report. I've done that a few times.

What do I need to get it working? (If I'm not only contact me on IM)

Hi

This looks like a problem I saw on my old PC, which locked up on all 3D games and I have tracked down the fix I used.

There is a conflict between some ATI Radeon cards and some VIA chipsets. If you look in the device manager under system devices - you will probably see one marked VIA CPU to AGP controller. This has to be changed. The process is fairly straightforward. The details of how to do this are found here.

Alternatively buy a new card, but choose nVidia!!

Push the card properly into the slot in the PC. It probably is not properly inserted, as you have to press harder than you might expect.
sounds like the card aint fitted in proper.....

fitting a grafix card is like LIVING.....

PUSH HARD and thou SHALL get!!
In the Start%26gt;Run window dype dxdiag to check your DirectX version then click on the Display tab and click on the

Test Direct 3D button and see what you get.

You couls also go to the control panel and open the Display and click on Setting /Advanced/ATi and set everything to the default settings and try again.

it seems that i have no idea
If you fail all of your dxdiag diagnosis test, then your graphics card has failed. You may need to purchase a new graphics card.
