Source code for Microsoft software?

I recently read that Microsoft will make .Net Framework 3.5 (Class library) source code available in Visual Studio 2008. Is there any other libraries, DLL functions, etc open to the public for other products made by Microsoft? I have always been curious about how applications like Excel, Word, .Net, Windows, COM, etc performed their magic.

Source code for Microsoft software?

Understanding the .Net Framework source code is useful for third-party .Net programmers (who Microsoft want to encourage), however, publishing the source code for their end-user applications could be disastrous to Microsoft.

Hackers would love to look for weaknesses in the code, and Microsoft's competition (what there is of it) would also like a peek.

I don't think they're going to do that any time in the near future.
