Ok, I have Windows XP. I was looking in the add/remove programs %26amp; I've noticed that I have all these programs that I do not use! Here's a list, %26amp; tell me which ones are not needed-
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft Internationalized Domain Names Mititgation APIs
Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003
Microsoft Visual J# . NET Redistributable Package 1.1
NVIDIA GART Driver
PC-Doctor for Windows
PS2
S3 S3Display
S3 S3Gamma2
S3 S3Info2
S3 S3Overlay
VIA/S3G Display Driver
Viewpoint Media Player
Do I needs these %26amp; if I install them from my computer will they effect it?
Which programs are not nessesary?windows media player 11
Viewpoint Media Player can be removed - it comes with AIM and is completely unnecessary.
S3 entries are for integrated graphics - so, if you have an add-on graphics card these are not necessary. But, if you have the integrated graphics, removing these will mess up your display until you re-install
PC-Doctor is not absolutely necessary - but, uninstalling it has caused system instability on some systems. Might as well just keep it as it's not hurting anything
Microsoft Office is not necessary - but useful. If you don't use it, you can remove it.
Everything else you should keep - and actually, you should do an update as .NET Framework 3 is out. You should at least have 2.0.
If you remove NVIDIA GART Driver, you won't be able to get online through broadband until you re-install.
PS2 is your mouse controller.
Which programs are not nessesary?microsoft publisher internet explorer
most of those are neccesary for certain system functions or programs, and u really shudnt remove
only maybe like pc docter and ps2
anything you dont need !
You really don't need viewpoint media player. It's a player used by some websites, but you won't notice if it's gone. The others programs such as the S3 programs have to do with your video card so keep those files. Also, you will probably never use PC-doctor unless you are very good with computers, so it's okay to remove it. The rest I would keep.
Id just leave it. You never know one day you might need it.
Two thumbs down? ok then delete everything destroy it there im sure its not there for a reason "happy now"?
Yes you do need those files for the Operating System and hw it accesses and reads information from the internet and other programs. Microsoft Office should be obvious(it's Word, Excel, etc). The S3 programs are for your video card.
The ones you can get rid of if you really want to are:
PC-Doctor for Windows
Viewpoint Media Player
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 - Keep
Microsoft Internationalized Domain Names Mititgation APIs - Keep if bilingual
Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 - Keep since you paid for it
Microsoft Visual J# . NET Redistributable Package 1.1 - Not used much but why not keep
NVIDIA GART Driver - Graphics driver,
PC-Doctor for Windows - Keep if you paid for it
PS2 - ?
S3 S3Display - Keep for monitor driver
S3 S3Gamma2 - Keep if you want to find tune your monitor
S3 S3Info2 - same
S3 S3Overlay - ditto
VIA/S3G Display Driver - keep
Viewpoint Media Player - remove
Actually you can keep all of these. Removing them will not speed up you computer or free up much hard drive space (except office, which you shouldn't remove.)
You definetly wont need these:
Viewpoint Media Player
Microsoft Visual J# . NET Redistributable Package 1.1
this is a good thing to have:
Microsoft Internationalized Domain Names Mititgation APIs
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
You may need this for word processing at some point:
Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003
This is an antivirus, you can delete it but you should get another one.
PC-Doctor for Windows
I wouldnt suggest messing with these...NEVER delete a driver unless you dont use the hardware that goes with it. Im not sure what they are, but they look like graphics cards add ons, they are good to have.
NVIDIA GART Driver
PS2
S3 S3Display
S3 S3Gamma2
S3 S3Info2
S3 S3Overlay
VIA/S3G Display Driver
You should run the defragmenter after your done cleaning up.
If in doubt, leave it. A lot of these programs are working in the background and you will never be aware of them until you remove them. You should be more concerned about downloading things from the web. That's where you can really get into trouble.
