The dot net framework in human language is:
* a system that contains a whole bunch of ways for programmers to interface with your computer
* it has a common language runtime, which means it compiles all the programming languages the same, this means that for the first time you can do virtually anything in all of the microsoft programming languages
* it provides a common framework for programmers who develop in many languages to use the same set of objects for doing the same tasks, this makes going back and forth between languages easier
* the dot net framework contains ways of doing many things that were very complicated before, but are much simpler now
* lastly the .net environment is needed to run any software written in a .net language. it provides all the language instructions the program needs to run
