ERROR CODE 0x643... Need help?

Automatic updates failed to update the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 in my computer. I have Windows XP

I went to the Windows Update web site to review my update history and clicked on the red icon. It said: ERROR CODE 0x643.

I followed the links to see if I could repair it. It instructed me to remove all of the .NET Framework applications, and to re-install them.

When I got to the NET Framework 2.0 I got the following message:

"Patch Packing could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exixts and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows installer patch package."

I have fixed several things in my computer, but this time, frankly, I don't understand the message. I have tried several ways to fix it but to no avail.

Can someone help me?
