Can I safely remove .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0?

My Add/Remove Programs control panel shows I have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, 1.1 Hotfix, 2.0, and 3.0.

I'm running XP MCE with SP2.

Can I safely uninstall the 1.1 and 2.0 versions? (If so, why didn't MS automatically uninstall them at the time later versions were installed?)

The different versions aren't really "upgrades" the way you're thinking they are. Some programs that work on .Net 1.1 or 2.0 won't run on 3.0. Having said all that, there's nothing preventing you from uninstalling them, but some of your programs that depend on 1.1 or 2.0 may quit working properly.

Its is not necessary that to uninstall Net.Framework 1.1 to add 2.0 Version.

Go to control panel frm ur programs, select Add or remove Programs and uninstall if Necessary .
If you uninstall them you may find some of your programs not working and future programs you load will just tell you to reload them.

They are used by programmers to write programs. Each of the frameworks works a little different.

There's no reason to unload them because in future releaqses of Windows they are loaded automatically.
yes you can uninstall them but be advised they were installed in order for certain software on your system to work and after uninstalling that software will no longer work

certain games require .net in order to work I'm sure there are other progs that also must have it
You can uninstall them if your not using any programs that are running on 1.1 or 2.

Now to answer you 2nd question, .NET supports side by side execution even at the framework level.

Hence you removing 1.1 or 2 will have no effect on 3.
