I'm having problems with my windows update does anyone know what I should do?

I'm running a windows vista opperating system, and everytime I run my windows update, I keep geting error code 66A. The update is for a Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB929729). So I tried to manually download the .Net 1.1 SP1 from the microsoft website and save it to my desktop. but when I go to run/install it it says:

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

I have no idea what this means or even what to do. could anyone help me out.

I think you need to re-install everything because there are inconsistencies in the program.

You can also search the web for sites that deal with this stuff, but i really think you really need to re-install the program.

Try to download the vista service pack 1 from microsoft website. Vista uses .Net framework 3 so updating 1.0 is useless.
