The warning says to stop the process. How do I fix this? I have Windows XP on a Toshiba laptop.
Did you try running Windows Updates? There is a new update for the Microsoft.NET Framework, perhaps that will fix it. If not you can uninstall the Microsoft.NET Framework from Add/Remove Programs (make sure and check Show Updates at the top)

Try to update but it's telling me it can't be installed but it won't go away

It'll ask you to restart after it finishes. Once you do, the automatic update installation thingy should now work. Tell me how it works out.
try using revo uninstaller it will uninstalls it
Sometimes when you install the .net framework it installs other software and add ons, specially if you have installed it ussing Visual Studio for example, be sure to remove those components first, and then try to perform the uninstalation process again, you can see the components if there are any listed on start-control panel-add remove programs.

i have the .net framework installed and use it everyday it has never said any error messages like that to me at all in fact iv never had an error msg.
id just reinstall .net framework and hope that fixes that problem.
